Happy Halloween!

Something chases you down the darkened streets like phantom footsteps while the moon silently watches and stars quiver in anticipation.

A set of glowing eyes peer from beneath the bushes at your side then darts in front of you as nothing but shadowy form.

Despite the chill night air, sweat beads across your forehead and your heart rate quickens and beats a desperate staccato against your chest.

The painful howl of some wretched beast echoes through the night.

It’s October and All Hallows Eve is looming. Something vile and wicked stains the air giving even the most bravest of souls cause to pause…and wonder.

Darkness swallows the last comforting rays of sun and the wind whistles it’s eerie warning to stay behind the locked doors and drawn curtains.

Set a match to the fireplace, light a candle and huddle beneath a warm blanket with a good book.

Guest Author Eve Langlais

Welcom to the blog Eve and thanks for taking the time to join us!

What is the title of your most recent published book?
Coming out on October 15th are two stories just in time for Halloween. With Amira Press, I have a paranormal romance featuring a witch and a shifter. He didn’t count on a stubborn witch making abduction his only option. From Cobblestone Press, it’s A Ghostly Ménage featuring a human woman and twin shifter ghosts. Forget ghosts that rattle chains, try living with ones that like to grope.

Where were you when you got your first book contract? Who did you tell?
I was sitting in my office when I saw the email and I bounced up and down in my chair. I told my hubby who was brushing his teeth and tried to congratulate me with a foaming mouth. :)

What genre do you write?
I mostly write paranormal because I love the world building and supernatural abilities I can gift my characters. But, I’ve also written science fiction, futuristic and even some BDSM.

Who inspired you to write?
My husband dared me to write and I hate it when he wins, so I sat down and pounded away at my keyboard. A year and a half later, I can safely say, I won. ;)

Dont you just love a good dare! Who designed your cover? I can’t just choose one so I’ve got to give credit to them all. Anastasia Rabiyah has designed all my covers with Amira Press and I have to say, she does great abs. At Cobblestone Press, I’ve had the talented author and artist Sable Grey along with PJ Friel-Edwards. And finally, with Champagne Books and Liquid Silver Books, my covers were designed by the truly gifted, Amanda Kelsey.

Do you have any tips for new writers? Write, write and write some more. Once you get that first book done, don’t spend ages revising and rewriting it. Send it out and start the next piece.

I have to ask because we all have one, or more. What is your guilty pleasure?
Chips and dip. Just ask my poor hips. 

Where can your readers reach you? The best place to find out more about me and my upcoming stuff is on my website @ http://www.evelanglais.com . Awesome covers, hot excerpts and more await.

What’s next for you? More stories. I just finished a Cleopatra paranormal and am now working on two new pieces until one takes me over completely

Guest Author Sandra Sookoo

Welcome to the blog Sandra!
What is the name of your most recent published book?

Well, considering today’s the Release Day for CHANGING TIDES, I’d have to say this book! LOL Feel that excitement? Yup, that’s the enthusiasm behind this book.

Here’s the blurb:

Born of water.

Neadra is an Undine, yet the thought of being in any body of water besides her bathtub terrifies her. In Strange Hollow, she lives on the side a the mountain, content and out of harm’s way, even as she yearns to be understood for her fears and loved in spite of them.

Drawn to water.

Caelan, a water dragon from the wilds of Ireland, has been shunned by his clan for his inability to shift and terrorize. Lonely for too long, he meets Neadra one moonlit night and becomes enchanted by her kindness and her unique beauty, but how could anyone love him if he has no heroic ability whatsoever?

Threatened by water.

When late spring rains, coupled with warm temperatures, melt much of the snow pack on Mt. Mitchell, a flood sweeps through the outskirts of Strange Hollow, putting Neadra’s life in danger. Caelan fights his way to get to her, pulling out the hero he never thought he could be while she, in turn, works through her fears to find him. Only through acceptance of the world around them and of each other will they find the life they’ve always wanted.

Sounds like Neadra and Caelan have quite an adventure. I can't wait to read more. So tell us Sandra, what inspires you to write your books?
Writing is always what I’ve wanted to do ever since I was a kid. I’m inspired everyday to write something different, put a unique spin on everything I do and I’ll be writing until the day I die.

What genre do you write and what draws you to it?
I write romance. What draws me to it? The promise of a happy ending, of course! I love seeing how two different people can put aside their issues and come together to make something beautiful out of a relationship.

Do you have a favorite author, book or series? I can’t narrow it down to just one. In any given sub-genre, I have favorites, and oftentimes, they change according to my mood. Variety is the key to life.

Who designed Changing Tides sexy cover?
The talented April Martinez. Don’t you just love how mysterious and sexy the cover is?

Do you have any tips for new writers?
Absolutely! The only way you’re going to learn how to write well is to keep writing. Oh sure, folks will tell you to read this book or take that class, but I firmly believe you can only get better by writing and doing it often. And above all, don’t give up no matter what bump in the road you hit.

I agree completely! Who is your favorite character and why?
In Changing Tides? I’d have to say it’s Neadra. She was very interesting to write and I felt for her during the project. But if you want to know who my favorite character in all of literature is, my answer would be Rhett Butler. I’d love to see someone write his story.

I'm sure Rhett would have quite the story to tell. It would be interesting to hear what he'd have to say about Scarlett. Where can your readers reach you?
At my website http://www.sandrasookoo.com From there you can connect with me on Twitter, my blogs and Facebook.

What are you writing now?
At the moment I’m finishing up a series for a different publisher that is scheduled for release later in 2011. After that I plan to work on a funny contemporary/paranormal book as well as a hot historical novella. A writer’s job is never done!

I'll look forward to those. Do you have an excerpt from Changing Tides that you’d like to share?
Watching the moon’s reflection on the lake surface, two glowing blue objects caught her attention. Neadra narrowed her eyes, straining forward. It was too early in the season for amphibian life and the orbs were too large to belong to a snake or fish. In the space of a heartbeat, they vanished. Relief swept through her body. She didn’t want to encounter some of the more fierce wildlife rumored to live around the mountain.
As suddenly as they disappeared, the blue objects came back into view, almost staring at her with weird, electric light. She shivered and pulled her feet beneath her, out of the water. Were they eyes? How was it possible? If an Undine didn’t want to be seen, no one except another water sprite could see them--unless she failed at the camouflage aspect of her culture as well. She’d never had an opportunity to test the theory.
The eyes came closer, confirming the fact the objects belonged to something. Her pulse steadily increased until it drummed out a frantic rhythm. Too fascinated to move, she watched as it closed the distance, only ten feet from the shore and her.
Threads of nameless anticipation slid over her skin, invoking goose bumps, but she felt no fear. Five feet of dark water separated her from whatever lurked beneath the surface. Her throat went dry as she wondered what kind of being it was.
With the smooth movements of someone accustomed to spending time in and around water, the placid scene shimmered. The top of a male head appeared, bobbed for an instant, his gaze never breaking eye contact with her, and he swam forward. The closer he got, the more of his body was revealed until he stood, dripping, on the shore near her.
For a few seconds, Neadra forgot how to breathe as she stared at the naked form of the most beautiful man she’d ever seen. She gasped and realized beautiful was not nearly an appropriate way to describe this particular male. He was at least six feet tall, and she had to tip her head back in order to properly take him all in. Black, coarse hair sprinkled his winter-pale skin, and as he lifted his hands to slick his thick, black hair from his face, the muscles in his broad chest rippled.
Unable to breathe without sounding like a dog in heat, Neadra licked her lips as her gaze moved from his clean-shaven, square jaw, over wide shoulders, thick from daily gym visits or hard labor, and down along his torso, following the sensual black ribbon of hair past washboard abs to his partially erect penis.
“Wow.” She’d barely forced the word out when her sex contracted with a strong aching need and she had to squeeze her thighs together to stave off the sensations. Quickly snapping her gaze to his face, she sought to distract herself from his body--except his brilliant eyes caused havoc with her insides. She felt an insane desire to trace the strong lines of his face, run her fingers over his jaw, and feel his lips against hers. “Wow.”
The man smiled. The ordinary action lit his face into a softer version, twinkling his eyes and causing gentle creases to appear at the sides of his mouth and across his forehead, as if he indulged in grinning often. “It’s not often I get such a reaction from the ladies, especially not one as pretty as you. I’m Caelan Burke.”
Neadra melted a tiny bit further at the slight Irish accent in his baritone voice. “Hi.” At a disadvantage from her position on the ground, not to mention the tempting distraction of his naughty bits at eye level, she struggled to her feet. The small pebbles that made up the shore cut into the soles, but she barely noticed as she held out her hand. “My name is Neadra.”
When she moved forward to shake the hand he offered, her toes tangled into the hem of her long skirt and she stumbled, taking a few unsteady steps backward and teetering into the lake with a resounding splash.

Gem Sivad and Breed True!

I’m thrilled to have you on the blog Gem! Why don’t you tell us a little bit about Breed True!

In 2009 I began a series of western romances set in a mythical town of Eclipse, Texas. My first book, Intimate Strangers, had this scene in it:

A quarrel broke out between a well-dressed man and a shabbily dressed woman. Any misconception that the elegant attire clothed a gentleman ended when his slap reverberated in the air.
The too slender auburn-haired woman cradled her cheek as another man and hauled her attacker toward the outside door.
It was the opening Lucy needed. She approached the unfortunate woman, shielding her from the curious stares of the rest of the crowd. “Can I help you?”
“No one can help me,” the recipient of the slap answered and headed for the same door the men had used.
“Then you’ll have to help yourself,” Lucy advised briskly.
I worried about the above gambler’s wife after I finished Intimate Strangers. That led to Breed True, the story of Julie Fulton Rossiter and Grady Hawks, the man who rescues her.

I hear Breed True is up for a Covey Award! Where can we go to vote for you?

The Covey Award is awarded for best cover art. My claim to glory is that I was lucky enough to have Amanda Kelsey do the cover for Breed True. Here’s the link:

http://thenewcoveycoverawards.blogspot.com/2010/10/entry-22-breed-true.html

There are beautiful covers in competition this month. Whether you vote for Breed True or not, take a peek to admire Amanda’s work. If you want to vote for Breed True, it’s #22.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I don’t know. It just happens. I didn’t set out to be a western romance writer, but when I finished Intimate Strangers, the era felt so natural I stayed in the 19th century.

Do you listen to music when you write? If so, what music?

Yes I listen to music most of the time unless it’s a very intense scene. Those, I try to write in the middle of the night when all is quiet.
My taste in music is eclectic. Here are some standards I use a lot: Joe Bonamassa, George Benson, Easton Corbin, Nightwish, Dierks Bentley, Darius Rucker, and Michael Buble.

I have to agree on the quiet needed for intense scenes. I do a lot of writing at night too. Where can your readers learn more about you?

Visit me @ Gem’s Place- http://www.gemsivad.com

What are you writing now?

About 6 wips going, haven’t felt drawn to one particular one yet. Five Card Stud will be released this fall from Ellora’s Cave—and two subs out, The Journal of Lucy Quince, and River’s Edge.

Because I work in multiple stories at a time, I tend to finish books in a cluster, than sub, collapse, focus on promo and rest while I regenerate brain cells. 

Yikes! Six at a time. You're a very busy woman indeed. Do you have an excerpt from a book that you’d like to share?

"Do you men like apple cobbler?" She set the hot apple confection on the table as she asked. As usual, her words were ignored as if she had not spoken. Grady Hawks watched her with interest this time, just as he had at every meal she battled wills with them.

"Guess you fellows don't like apple cobbler." She whisked it off the table after her initial question remained unanswered. Rowdy, knife in hand, was in the process of reaching for the dessert and howled. "Hell, yes, I like apple cobbler. I like apple pie too. Ain't much made with apples I don't like."

She cut a big slice of the hot cobbler and put it steaming on his plate. Then she carried the rest to the sideboard and set it down, standing guard over it so that it wasn't disturbed.

Grady Hawks rose from his chair and walked to where she stood barring the way to her cobbler as she dared the men to trespass and risk injury.

"I like apple cobbler too, Julie. Would you cut a piece for me?" Suddenly in front of the ranch hands who watched silently, now more interested in their exchange than in dessert, she blushed. It was incomprehensible how the gravelly pitched question could bring a flood of color to her face, but nevertheless, it happened. Heat scorched through her body, leaving her vulnerable and breathless with the memory of his touch the night before.

His eyes became half-slits, heavy with desire, as his gaze boldly caressed her, promising more intimate explorations after the men left them alone. She'd gotten what she wanted—their attention. But the trembling anticipation that filled her as a result wasn't the victory she'd planned. "Here," she picked up the hot plate and thrust it toward him, burning her hand in the process. "You serve dessert. I've got better things to do."

Before she could back away and hurry to her outdoor sanctuary, Grady caught her hand and raised it to his lips. He stepped closer, hiding his act from the other men as he opened his mouth and sucked on her burned fingers.

Please welcome K.A. M'Lady to the blog!

Congratulations and welcome! Why don’t you tell us a little bit about Just Another ParaNormal Halloween.

Hi, Rhonda! Thanks so much for inviting me to your blog.

The Just Another ParaNormal Halloween Anthology is a collaboration of paranormal stories by a wonderfully talented group of authors from Just Another Paranormal Monday. Each story was written with a Halloween theme and each one is uniquely different from the others; ranging from vampires, werecreatures, the undead and even angels; a little something for everyone tastes.

What is the title of your story in the book?

My story is titled Love, Lies & Zombie Cries and is centered on the main character Jayda Oslynn who is a necromancer, or ‘death dealer, as her kinfolk call themselves. She receives a request to raise a zombie on the night of Halloween and in the course of her interview with the vampire that requests this deed things quickly go from bad to worse. Here’s a little intro:

Love, Lies & Zombie Cries by K.A. M’Lady

Jayda Oslynn knows what death feels like. She knows the solitude in the darkness’ silence. The lonely spaces between life’s last breath and the realm of the undead.
Like the women in her family before her, she’s had a life-long affinity with those that wander in the land between. Some call it black magick or necromancy, but to the Oslynn family it’s always been known as death dealing. And, whether a blessing or a curse, Jayda’s always been able to feel their feelings – their love and suffering, their happiness and sorrows. The truth, when shared through her eyes, always has a way of being felt and seen.
This Halloween, Jayda finds that when dealing with the dead, some memories are better left buried, for the real truth never stays buried and hearts, once broken seldom seem to mend.

Excerpt:

If sex is better than chocolate, how come love bites?
I wanted to ask that of my last client, but she was dead. This time it was forever too. Granted, the long-tooth did deserve it. Now I wasn’t setting myself up as judge and jury, mind you. And, the fact that her lover sort of gone and got me to help be executioner had me none too thrilled, even though she’d done plenty a things in her past life to deserve it, sure as the night is dark. But, it’s like I said, the vamp did have it coming and, as the saying goes, ‘the dead tell no tales.’
It all ain’t no never mind to me, least ways. I just don’t like having no part in all of it, is all. Double-dealing vamps and their two-faced, soullessness, and all. Anyways, got myself in a heap now. Not real sure how I’m gonna get out of it either. I suppose the only way to tell this tale is to start at the start. Then, maybe together we can find our way to the end.
My momma always said that when you take pay from the devil, he’s gonna be owed some change. Well, some nights, I guess that’s true enough. Least ways, when you’re dealing with the dead and affairs of the heart. Somebody always ends up sore or sorry, in my experience, anyways.
This story starts on Halloween. I always did hate to call the dead on Halloween. Hated it like the feel of an apple skin spliced between your teeth and you can’t quite get the floss to wrap around it. Like you can’t quite seem shuck it loose or swipe it clean. Instead, you know the gums are gonna bleed. Something always bleeds.
In my line of work, it’s part of the ritual. Blood sacrifice. Chicken killing and graveyard dancing. I just hated doing it on Halloween. Seemed this, of all nights, is always filled with its own brand of dark magick. Seems I never needed much blood to call those nestled below its safe, dark surface. And, no matter how much my fee, I always managed to find someone rich enough or twisted enough who had the means and the motives with which to inspire me into doing their bidding.
Yeah, money was a master, but it wasn’t mine. Or, it wasn’t my only. You had to have a reason, and a damn well good one, for having me raise someone from the dead on Halloween. I’ve been doing this my whole life, you see. Well, as long as I could hold a memory, that is. I’ve called a few gnarly things from beyond the hedgerow in my time. Necromancy is an inborn gift. One you’ve either got or you ain’t.
Oh, I know quite a few zombie raisers. They’re pretty good at their craft, mind you. But raising the dead—and I mean truly raising the dead—well, that’s a whole different sort of magick. Lucky for me, it runs in my family. My momma was a death dealer, as was her momma before her. They both died real young, though. Stories told say that the dead got mad they were messing with their resting. I’m not sure that be true. I’ve done my research...something my kin might have should of done. Earth magick and death magick go a bit hand in hand, ya know.
My name is Jayda Lee Oslynn, and I’m a death dealer.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Everything, anything. A verse of a song, the color of a door on someone’s house. A line from a poem, news headlines. I have a whole new series in the works based on one little article I read on a bit of archeological information and the person at the dig site. Add in some friends and family, switch things up – it’s always fun to take historical facts and twist them to suit my purposes. Makes for a fun storyline. Plus, when your friends beg to be written in…well, I keep telling them they should be careful what they ask for. If they end up a three-headed dog that licks its own butt or flesh-eating zombie that only eats toes – hey, don’t whine to me about it, you asked to be written in.

Thats Great! Be careful what you wish for. Do you listen to music when you write? If so, what music?

I don’t listen to it when I’m writing. That is to say if it’s on I really don’t notice. The TV can be on, the radio on, the house crumbling – when I’m writing I tend to be lost in whatever I’m working on. I’d prefer it to be quiet though – the voices in my head yammer enough.

Believe me, I know what that is like! Sometimes my characters voices are so loud I can't hear anything else. LOL Where can your readers learn more about you?

Readers can find more about me and my work from my publisher – Mojocastle Press – www.mojocastle.com and on my website at www.kamlady.net There they will find character images and bios from my Realm series, news articles from the Glen Hills Gazette, as well as reference information for my Faith Savage Demon Huntress Series and a link to her first interview. Of course you can also find me on MySpace – www.myspace.com/kamlady and on Facebook - www.facebook.com/KaMLady Then, of course, every Monday you will find updates, blurbs and Creature Features over at Just Another Paranormal Monday.

You pretty much have all the bases covered. What are you writing now?

I have several works about to be released (I’ve been super busy.) I just released the third installment in my dark fantasy series Realm titled Illuminated Death. I have a new fantasy poetry book being released – Ramshackle Castle – Bent Poetry & Other Altered Verse, three new installments in my Faith Savage Demon Huntress series coming out - Book 5 – The Ash Collector, Book 6 – Wicked’s Kiss and Book 7 – Sinner and then for Christmas we’ll have another anthology released by another great group of authors from Just Another Paranormal Monday. This one is for a wonderful cause and I am very excited about it. All of the proceeds from the sales of Just Another ParaNormal Christmas will go to benefit The Armed Forces Children’s Education Fund. It will also be available for free download to service members of Operation eBook Drop (www.operationebookdrop.com). All of the stories in the Anthology are paranormal related and Christmas themed, as well as being rated PG-13. This rating was so that the stories can be ready by anyone.

That's an awesome cause. I wish you well with it. Do you have an excerpt from your book that you’d like to share?

You bet! My story is titled Once Upon a Dragon. I sort of have a child-like impartiality to this story. I took some of my fondest memories of Pete’s Dragon, tossed in some of Merlin’s magic; a few bits from a few of my favorite childhood books and, well, you get the picture.

Just Another ParaNormal Christmas – Coming to Mojocastle Press

(Unedited) Once Upon A Dragon by K.A. M’Lady

Jeremy Owens and his older siblings want to believe in magic, but hope and belief are difficult things to hold onto even when you’re a child. After the loss of their parents, three young children find themselves fostered off on an Aunt who’s never known the love of a child. This Christmas will the Owens children find out what it means to believe again?
Anything is possible with a little magic.

Excerpt:

Twenty minutes. It had taken twenty minutes to get all of their bags down the train deck and piled next to Lennai’s car. That was with her helping. What in blue-blazes did these children bring with them? And where am I going to put all of it? Not to mention how in the world am I going to get it and them back to my house? In this little car? The mound of luggage stood higher than the top of Lennai’s car and she was completely out of her league already.
“Need some help?”
Pen. Just his name brought a swarm of relief that Lennai would never be able to explain to anyone. Today, of all days, she was happy to see him. Again.
“You have no idea,” she stated, a smile of thanks filling her eyes even as it spread across her lips.
She watched Pen make quick work of filling the back of his old Dodge pick-up with the mountain of bags that were the children’s belongings. She watched the way the afternoon light caught Pen’s dark hair. How easily he seemed to get along with the children; already laughing and joking with the eldest boy, Tyler, and the little one, Jeremy. For one brief moment her heart ached for all the emptiness that had been her life.
“Can we ride back to your house with Pen?” Tyler asked, his voice hopeful, his eyes bright.
“Yeah, can we Aunt Lennai?” This from Jeremy who was tugging on her sweater, looking up at her with the same bright, brown eyes that were an exact match for her brothers’.
“It’s fine with me,” Sam stated. “I’ll ride with you.”
Lennai blinked, trying to take it all in. When did her life became so crazy? Oh, yes. Today.
“I guess so,” she told them hesitantly. “That is, if it’s ok with you, Pen?”
“Sure, I don’t mind. Besides, don’t think there’s much room in your car anyway.”
Lennai turned and looked at her little Geo which was loaded down from floor to roof with what apparently were all of Sam’s belongings. The back end had actually sunk a good two inches and she was wondering if they’d even make it down the road from the weight.
“It’ll be fine, Lenni,” Pen said, as if reading her thoughts. “Come on boys. Adventures await.” Then he lifted up Jeremy into the cab.
“Oooh, what’s this?” Jeremy questioned as he hung out the side of the truck, a shiny rock in his hands.
“Don’t worry, Lenni,” Pen whispered, taking Lennai by the shoulders and pointing her in the direction of her car. “You’ll do just fine. You’ll see.”
“Glad you’re so all fire sure of things,” she muttered. “You borrow some of Merlin’s magic? Get yourself a crystal ball?”
Pen shrugged. “Maybe.” Then he winked at her and walked away.
“That there is a dragon’s egg, little Jeremy. So don’t squish it.”
“A dragon’s egg? Will it make a magical dragon? Where’d you get a dragon’s egg anyway? Can you get me a magical dragon?” Jeremy rapidly questioned, each word dripping with the excitement and exuberance of youth.
Lennai grunted. Magical dragons.
Sam snorted. Magical dragons.
Tyler laughed. “Whoever heard of eggs that hatched magical dragons?”

Thanks so much, Rhonda for having me today on your blog. I greatly appreciate being able to share my work with you and your readers. Please stop by and see on my website or send me an email – who knows, you may get written into my next WIP.

Hopefully not as a three headed monster! :) It's been my pleasure interviewing you!

Guest Author Alianne Donnelly

Today we welcome Alianne Donnelly, author of Blood Moons recently released at Liquid Silver Books www.liquidsilverbooks.com

What is the name of your most recent published book?

My first and most recent published book is Blood Moons. It’s the first in a series of three books about shape shifters.

What or who inspires you to write your books?

My inspiration comes from a lot of things. Friends, music, movies, even dreams. I’ve had dreams so vivid and beautiful I turned them into stories. They’re some of my most personal works.

What genre do you write and what draws you to it?

I write mainly paranormal romance. I believe there is (or should be) more to life than what we see day to day. To write about it makes me feel more confident that that 9-5 job is not all I’ll ever do with my life. And that’s what I hope others will get from my stories, if even for a few moments while reading.

Who is your favorite author, book or series?

At the moment I have three favorites: Karen Marie Moning tops the list, with her Fever series and her Highlander books. If you haven’t picked them up yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. Second place is a tie between Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series and Larissa Ione’s Demonica series. They present the mythical in a way that stays true to what we know but somehow turns it all upside down at the same time. Reading their works is always an adventure.

Who designed your awesome cover?

The cover was created by Lyn Taylor – and didn’t she just do an amazing job? I am in awe. I love it!

Do you have any tips for new writers?

There are tons but odds are they’ve already heard it all before. One thing I would say is stay true to who you are. Write what you want to read, not what you think will sell. Write for the passion of it, not the money. If you do that, you can’t go wrong. =)

Who is your favorite character and why?

My favorite character ever? Hmm that’s a tough one. There are almost too many to choose from. I love them all!

Where can your readers reach you?

My readers can find me posting on my blog at aliannedonnelly.blogspot.com or on my facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Alianne-Donnelly/136408409725584?ref=ts (full link for reference)

What are you writing now?

At the moment I am editing the second of the Blood series, Blood Trails, and writing the third, Blood Debts. I am also posting a story on my blog by chapters called The Beast, which is my take on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale.

Do you have an excerpt from your book that you’d like to share?

Dara reached out; then, her fingers brushing his brow, his temple, down to his cheek. “Your face is changing,” he heard her say. “Does it hurt?”
He heard his own growl, a purely animal sound no human vocal cords could produce. Did it hurt? Christ, yes. He was in agony just keeping still under her touch. Her fingers brushed into his hair, sifting through it, and he almost purred. Was his sight changing again? She hadn’t been so close to him before.
But it wasn’t Dara who’d moved. Without meaning to, he slid his hand forward to just beside her hip and shifted his weight on it in a slow, fluid motion, leaning closer to her. He never blinked as he watched her face. He could hear her heartbeat quicken and she was breathing in little gasps. Her pupils went wide, her cheeks became rosy, and her lips … Ah, it was a beautiful sight to behold them plumping the slightest bit and parting just a little.
He’d dreamed of this. Seeing her like this. Feeling her tremble beneath his touch. He’d imagined the feel of those lush lips on him so many times he’d lost count. In his dreams, he’d had her on all fours before him as he slammed into her and bit her shoulder in a frenzy. He’d seen her riding his cock in complete abandon, as wild as he felt. Tristan had felt her go down on him in his mind so many times he could almost believe it had really happened.
Dara thought he was trying to forget their kiss. She had no idea.

It sound delicious Alianne! Thanks for sharing it with us.

An Interview with Author Sapphire Phelan

Congratulations on your novel! Why don’t you tell us a little bit about Just Another ParaNormal Halloween. What is the title of your story in the book?

“His Girl.”

“His Girl” blurb:

My Girl was more than just a song for Evan McPhail and Aimee Saunders; it was the music of their love and passion for each other. For nothing could tear them apart, not even death.

Then Aimee vanished.

She returns to Evan thirty years later, no longer human. To the tempo of their passion, they prove that doesn't matter.

Sounds like an awesome love story. Where do you find your inspiration?

Believe it or not, a couple of years ago, I was listening to the radio in my car when My Girl by The Temptations came on. Suddenly, like a movie, I saw the entire story before my eyes. I rushed home and wrote it, and the rest is history as they say.

That leads to my next question. Do you listen to music when you write? If so, what music?

I don’t actually. I may have background noise from the little TV set in the office/sewing room, but most times, I mute it and write with the flow.

Where can your readers learn more about you?

What are you writing now?

I just finished doing first edits on first draft of A Familiar Tangle With Hell, erotic urban fantasy sequel to my Prism Awards 2010 winner, Being Familiar With a Witch. It is the continuation adventures of Tina Epson and her Familiar/Demon lover, Charun.

Next, I will start on the third novella in the Beast Magic series, this time the hero and heroines are werewolves. Tentatively for now, the title will be Wolf Magic.

Sounds fabulous! Do you have an excerpt from your book that you’d like to share?

EXCERPT:

Aimee woke up. It was still dark and with a glance aside at the clock on the table on her side of the bed, she saw it was midnight.

Oh no, my parents are going to have a fit.

Untangling herself carefully out of Evan’s arms, she slipped off the mattress to frantically search for her clothing. After hastily dressing, she grabbed her purse and coat from a chair. She paused by the bed and stared down at Evan. How much she loved him. He looked so innocent—so unguarded lying there. And yet, he had brought her fully into her womanhood. Bending down; she brushed a butterfly kiss to his cheek.

His auburn hair tousled, a wisp of it curling down and settling against his left eyebrow, moving with each breath he took. Thick, dark lashes feathered against his freckled cheeks. He mumbled her name in his sleep as he rolled over onto his back.

“Nothing will keep us apart, Evan. Nothing.”

She tiptoed out of the room, closing the door behind her.

Aimee paused for a second. Staring back at the door, almost hidden by the shadows of the night, she felt a strange tightening of her heart. It was as if something warned her to go back, back to the bed and Evan’s arms.

Shaking her head at her silly imaginings, she knew she had to be in class in a few hours. Besides, if she stayed, her parents would figure out what she and Evan had been doing. She certainly didn’t want that. So she ambled away from the motel and decided to take the shortest route home through the nearby woods.

Wow, these woods sure look different then they do in the daylight. Wait a moment . . . was that a shadow? Is someone out there? It doesn’t matter. I got to get home quickly before Mom and Daddy discover how late I am. If they figure out I didn’t stayed late at the party. . . Yeah, they may love Evan like a son, but they’re old-fashioned about the idea of their daughter sleeping with him before the wedding.

With only a crescent moon and a few sprinkling of stars in the night sky, the light was poor in the woods. Aimee had to be careful where she stepped because of unseen roots or debris scattered along the path. The night wind picked up. She felt a prickling at the back of her neck, almost like a warning. Pausing, she glanced over her shoulder. Nothing moved in the darkness. The trees stood there like silent guards, shadow-like and alert. Something about the night seemed wrong, though. As fear electrified under her skin, Aimee quickened her walk. Even though she told herself she was being silly, she wanted nothing more than to get out of the woods as fast as her feet could carry her.

Too late, she remembered the articles in the newspaper about bodies being found, drained of blood. Her blood ran cold as she realized most of those bodies had been found in these very woods.

Without warning, something slammed into her back and forced her to the ground. Pain lanced through her as rocks scraped her face and hands. When she opened her mouth to scream, dirt filled it. Instinct made her get up, but something heavy kept her down. She had felt scared earlier, but that was a shadow to what filled her now.

A voice, deep and horrible, whispered into her ear. “You smell good; your fear fills me with anticipation.”

Panicking, Aimee tried to fight off her attacker, but something thumped the back of her head hard. Pain exploded, and her vision crossed as a headache began to pound. Dazed, she found herself being lifted off the ground by a pair of muscular arms. She tried to peer into her captor’s face, but the darkness and pain obscured it. Only twin red lights glowed where his eyes should be.

Her attacker snickered. “Happy Halloween.”

She screamed just before the dark wave of unconsciousness splashed over her.

I’ve got chills already! Thanks for sharing that with us and visiting my blog.

Guest Author Virginia Cavanaugh - Secrets of Night

I had an opportunity recently to ask Virginia Cavanaugh, the author of Secrets of Night a few questions. Secrets of Night released on October 11, 2010 from Liquid Silver Books www.liquidsilverbooks.com

What is the title of your most recent published book?

Secrets of Night

Where were you when you got your first book contract? Who did you tell?

I was at home when I received the email. DH had just got home from work and I think I kind of screamed the news at him, LOL. Then I called my mom and sister and then whoever else I could get a hold of.

What genre do you write and what draws you to it?

The two main genres of romance I write in are Paranormal and Romantic Suspense. I would have to say what draws me to them are the characters that develop in my mind. But recently I have had other characters in other genres starting to chat around in my head. And I also realize that when writers talk about the characters in their heads they start to look a little Paranoid Schizophrenic LOL.

Who is your favorite author, book or series?

This is a very hard question. I would have to say that right now it would be a two way tie between Karen Marie Moning’s Highlanders/fever series and Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series.

Who designed your cover?

For Secrets of Night Amanda from Liquid Silver Books.

Do you have any tips for new writers?

Do not wear your feelings on your sleeve. Most people in this line of work are going to give you straight forward comments on your work and you need to be able to take what they are saying and apply it. Some times to drive a point home the comments might even boarder on rude. But I tell you, after a few responses you will learn the difference between critique and mean. For instance my own CP once told me my hero in a story was a butt hole and she didn’t like him. Then she proceeded to tell me why she didn’t like him in great detail, LOL. But never once was I offended by her comments. In fact I sent big hugs to her for it because I realized how someone else seen him. And I saw logic in her statements and seen how she came up with these comments. I didn’t want him to come across that way and was glad she pointed it out so I could fix it.
I have also been told a character was TSTL Too Stupid To Live. I actually laughed at that one. And again could see where that came across and changed it. You need to beware of those people that read your work in the rough before you ever sub and they are just ooo and aaahhh. Myself, I like my CP that will give me credit on the things I did right but I have not yet got an MS back from her that didn’t have something wrong. From everything to a typo to a Butt hole hero.  I highly recommend someone that will be tough on you but not mean. And there is a difference.

How are you the same or different from your characters?

I would say my humor comes through in my characters. But I really do try and watch giving them too many of my traits because then they will start to seem like the same characters with different names. Instead I would say that I get to know my characters before I write them so that I can make sure there are differences.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Coffee and Chocolate. Hands down.

Where can your readers reach you?

Do you have another project going now?

I am currently working on the second book in the Order of Night series titled Deceptions of Night. You will meet the hero, Lex, in Secrets of Night.

Do you have an excerpt from Secrets of Night that you’d like to share?

Kale followed closely behind Kierra as they approached the mansion. He strived to keep his thoughts on them getting into the house undetected, but was finding it rather difficult as his eyes continued to drift to her black, leather clad, heart-shaped backside, watching the sway of her hips. Her strawberry-blonde hair was twisted up in its usual fashion on the back of her head, showing off the slim column of her neck.
He couldn’t see much of her as she marched ahead of him in the dark, but he’d practically memorized everything about her. The black top she wore hugged her large breasts, causing a gentle swell to peek above the fabric. Her skin was like fine porcelain, and he craved to run his hands over its smoothness. A slight dusting of freckles ran across the bridge of her pert nose. But it was her eyes that always captivated him the most. The jade green deepened or lightened a shade with the change of her mood. It made him wonder what color they would be when filled with passion. He knew the rules though and knew that he could never have her. Her race only mated with mortal men, and yet he could not deny her beauty or the desire he had for her. She still filled his lusty dreams.
When they’d first met, he threw mild insults at her in an effort to push her away from him. He assumed if she thought he was a jerk, it would be easier to keep her at a distance. Instead, she had given back as good as she got, and over time, it became more of a flirtation.
Kale shook his head slightly as they arrived at the back door of the mansion and refocused. He scanned their surroundings for any sign of movement, but found none. The Vampire had to admit that the Shifters’ lack of attendance had raised a few questions for him as well. He had mulled over contacting the rest of the Triad concerning their absence, but in the end figured he had better do a little investigating of his own first. When he had arrived here tonight, he had planned to just check in and have a chat with the other Senators. He had been willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Now with the abduction and the apparent illegal immigrants, he knew a chat was not going to cover it.

The Devil's Kiss by Stacey Kennedy

What is the name of your most recent published book?

The Devil’s Kiss, the third novel in The Magical Sword series was released on September 27th with Liquid Silver Books and continues on with Nexi’s journeys in the Otherworld.

What or who inspires you to write your books?

What inspires me? Good question. I guess, the simple answer, the characters do. It’s how it all begins for me. A little scene will pop into my head and from there I write. For The Magical Sword series, it all started with, the idea of a woman who awakens to the Otherworld. With that one idea, a whole series was born. My inspiration comes from the story of the person or persons I’m writing. I don’t plot out my work. I just let the story come as I write chapter by chapter. Usually, by chapter three, I’m so engrossed, finding inspiration isn’t a problem.

What genre do you write and what draws you to it?

Urban Fantasy Romance is my genre. I love supernatural creatures, the strength they possess and the different magical abilities they hold. But of course, I love romance, the kind that makes you sigh out loud. It’s all these reasons I love to write and read in this genre―nothing better than, action, adventure and steamy sex.

Who is your favorite author, book or series?

There isn’t room for me to list all my favourites authors or books. Really, there are too many. But Katie MacAlister’s dragon series tops my list of fantastic novels. Her quirky female characters, sexy men, and fast paced action, always keeps me reading on.

Who designed your cover?

This cover, along with the other covers in The Magical Sword series, has been designed by Anne Cain, who just oozes with talent. With a pretty basic idea of what I was looking for, she created a brilliant design and brought my characters to life.

Do you have any tips for new writers?

Find a critique partner, that’s the best advice I could give. Before you submit your work to a publisher having a fresh set of eyes review it is a must. You’d be surprised at the mistakes you haven’t caught, plot holes that exist and grammar issues that you’ve missed. If you don’t have one, find one!!!

Where can your readers reach you?

I’m just about everywhere, and love to hear from readers, so don’t be shy.

What are you writing now?

I’ve got two projects on the go. I’m halfway through the second novel in The Watchers series which is published with Cobblestone Press, and it’s shaping up to be pretty fantastic. Then, I’ve also started a new urban fantasy romance series with fellow, Liquid Silver Books author, Sara Brookes, that has us both captivated. Needless to say, I’ve been keeping busy.

Do you have an excerpt from your book that you’d like to share?

Sure do! Enjoy Chapter One of The Devil’s Kiss...

The warm water wrapped around me in a total sense of relaxation as I leaned back into my antique claw-foot bathtub. I sighed in complete and utter surrender as every muscle in my body gave way to the heated comfort.
It felt good to be home.
Not that two weeks in the Phi Phi Islands wasn’t something I could get used to with its limestone cliffs and crystal blue water. However, home was the Otherworld and it was nice to be back.
When the bathroom door clicked open, I didn’t even have it in me to open my eyes. Kyden’s sweet musky scent swirled around me. When he ran his fingers lightly down the middle of my chest, desire stole the tranquility.
“Looks relaxing,” Kyden purred.
“It is.” I smiled, and cracked an eye open to see my sexy beast of a Guardian. Months we’ve been together and I still drooled over him. How could I not? With his damn perfect body, those yummy sculpted muscles, square chin, mesmerizing green eyes and strength that oozed from him. Ooohh yes, he was all mine. My breath came soft through my lips before I finally asked, “Wanna join me?”
He hesitantly shook his head. But he did lean in and lay his perfectly plump lips against mine with enough passion to make the bath water boil. It took a lot of restraint on my part not to drag him into the tub with me.
“You better get out,” he said a little huskily when he backed away. “We are needed.” He didn’t sound all too confident in those words. He stood, took one last heated look and left, closing the bathroom door behind him.
I ran my hands through the water a moment trying to keep my mind off the lingering effects of his kiss. My lips tingled from his kiss. My body warmed in a way that had nothing to do with the temperature of the bath water.
Minutes later, it was pointless and I was sick of staring at the stone walls of the bathroom. He’d started the motor running and it was revving high. I jumped out of the tub and dried off quickly, desperate to finish what he started.
My hand wrapped around the door handle and I flung it open, then headed out to the living room. “Get back here. I’m not done with...” My words ended as my breath was sucked back into my body. Embarrassment rocketed into every part of me. I screamed, crossed my legs and did my best to cover my breasts.
“Now that’s funny.” Willow beamed as Kyden petted her.
Their relationship had grown immensely after she saved my life and displayed that she wasn’t just an ordinary black fluff ball with an orange tipped tail. She was a Familiar—a magical creature that held the ability to take on the form of a black sleek panther whenever I needed some ass saving. Now, she and Kyden were practically inseparable. Couldn’t say I wasn’t a little extra nice to the testy kitty either. Of course, Kyden hadn’t heard her just now, only I was lucky enough to hear her telepathically and enjoy her snippety little comments.
Nevertheless, Kyden looked up on his own regard. The moment he caught sight of me, his eyes went wide and he lunged himself over the couch to wrap me in a blanket.
I could only laugh as I grabbed the ends of the blanket to cover myself. “Hello, Valor.”
It was nice to see the Patriarch, but would’ve been nice for him to see less of me.
Valor is the Alpha of all Alphas. The head honcho and he fit the part perfectly. He’s clean-cut, clean-shaven, and ready to be the next model for Calvin Klein. To me he was just Valor, my very close friend.
Valor chuckled, his face alight with amusement. “Good evening, Nexi.”
“You could have mentioned that he was here,” I said to Kyden, disgruntled.
Kyden shrugged. “I would have if I thought you were going to come out bare-assed.”
“What did you expect me to do after giving me a kiss like that?”
“I didn’t see…” Valor interjected, drawing my gaze back to his. “…much.”
“Sure you didn’t.” I snorted. “Just give me sec to get dressed.” I ran to the bedroom, slammed the door behind me and nearly died. Embarrassing events seemed to follow me wherever I went.
After my mortification settled, I dropped the blanket onto the king-size, white-iron bed. Moving to the walk-in closet, I grabbed my tight silver shorts, armor kilt with matching bra and made myself a little more presentable. My Guardian gear had become almost second skin to me now. Normal clothes were fun and all, but day to day, I wouldn’t want to wear anything else. Before, I opened the door to join them, I snatched up my sword and scabbard that lay at the foot of the bed.
When I opened the bedroom door, Willow stood there. “Serves you right!” she said.“Always walking around naked like you do.”
“Hush you,” I snapped back, not wanting to hear the obvious.
Kyden had a big ass smile on that beautiful face as I stepped away from Willow. “That is a better way to greet our guests.” His tone was nothing short of royally amused.
“I’d say.” I strode toward Valor and gave him a hug. He tightened at first, then relaxed in my arms. Supes weren’t overly affectionate toward each other, but this guy saved my ass twice. He deserved hugs and lots of them.
“Are you well, Valor?” I asked, and took a seat beside Kyden on the beige couch, which sat near the stone wooden fireplace.
“Very well thank you, and you?”
“Great. The vacation was just what I needed. Have you ever been to the Phi Phi Islands?”
He shook his head. “No, can’t say I have. I do hear it is something of intense beauty.”
“Sure is. I saw it in a movie once and always wanted to go. It definitely lived up to my expectations.”
“I am glad to hear you took some time away. It was well deserved.”
The memory sent a little shudder through me as I remembered how close I came to death against Astoria, a Black Magic Witch, just a few short weeks ago. Her and a bunch of badass vampires were after my head after I killed their leader, Lazarus. Did I feel bad about it—hell no. They both got what they deserved.
But remembering that also brought Magnus’—the Lord of the Underworld and the one who sent Astoria after me—last words back into my mind, “I will not force you to come with me, but let me make this clear, you will be mine.”
Magnus wanted me to join his guard for my unique magical abilities as a Spirit Witch to shield magic. He thought I was powerful, maybe I was, but I declined the offer. Thankfully, I couldn’t be forced, but I had the sneaking suspicion that he hadn’t really taken no for an answer. Deep down, I knew I hadn’t seen the last of Magnus.
As my mind drifted through memories, it was hard not to feel a little winded. Just a year and a half ago, I was a simple gal living in Carson City, Nevada, working in a doctor’s office. Now, I’d been through two—or was it three—near-death experiences. Who was really keeping count?
I shook away the thoughts, refocused on the present. “Are you visiting the council?” I asked Valor, more than curious as to why he was sitting on my couch.
“No.” He replied with a grin. “I have actually come to see you.”
My curiosity grew. “Really?” I glanced at Kyden, who gave an unknowing shrug of his shoulders. I snapped my gaze back to Valor. “What’s up?”
Valor’s grin grew and a knowing look came across his face. “I am here to take you up on your offer.” I thought a moment, but after a short pause, I piped up. “Sorry, what offer was that?”
“Your offer to help me if I needed it,” he answered, his grin now replaced with a frown. “And right now I desperately do.”
“Oh, okay, anything—name it.” I’d give this tough wolf just about anything he wanted. I owed him my life, a couple times over.
“Last night, I was contacted by the Alpha in Minnesota,” he explained. “After a brutal attack on a young woman, it has since been learned, she has accepted the bite and transformed.”
“Accepted the bite?” I repeated with blatant confusion.
Valor’s face lifted in amusement. “Werewolves are either made by being born from other wolves or they can also be bitten and turned.”
“Really?” I suspected my brows were in my hairline by now. There was still a lot to this world that was unknown to me. “I didn’t know that.”
“You have probably never heard of it because it does not happen often. It is very rare that a human actually survives the bite. Even then, going through the change is extremely difficult.”
“Is she well now?” Kyden asked.
“She is,” Valor answered with a nod. “After the Alpha discovered her, I was contacted immediately. Being that this is such a rarity he was unsure how to handle the situation.”
“I’m happy to hear she’s okay,” I said, curling my legs up to cuddle beside Kyden on the couch. He wrapped an arm around me, pulling me tight against his body. Never once would I admit aloud that I needed his strength at times, and never, would he point out such a fact. The result would end in a fight. Right now, however, I suspected this conversation was about to hit upon a place where having a little Kyden protection around me was a good thing.
Valor’s expression darkened grimly. “I said she was well, not okay.”
“Uh oh, what’s happened?” I asked, even though part of me didn’t want to know. Trouble seemed to be my constant shadow. We’d only been back a short time. I wasn’t at all ready to back into anything that resembled dangerous.
“After the transformation was completed, Dante and I brought her home. We have been unable to help her shift back since she is too distraught.”
Dante was Valor’s sexy beast of a son. Also very easy on the eyes. It came as a bit of a surprise that neither he nor Valor could help the woman transform. No woman, no matter who she is, wouldn’t feel comforted around these men. Their smooth-talking gorgeousness could not be missed. It meant she was in really bad shape. “Poor thing,” I exhaled.
Valor nodded, concern tightened his features. “It is very troublesome. I feel for the little wolf. She is very frightened and if we cannot get through to her.” He sighed deeply and met my gaze. “I am afraid I must destroy her. This is not something I want to do.”
“You have to kill her?” I snapped. “Why?”
“She is a liability,” Kyden interjected. “If she cannot control herself, she will end up facing our swords and taking a human life in the process.”
As if that answered my question. Kyden should have known better. This world, especially the wolf world was still very foreign to me. Having it spelled out what always a necessity. “It makes her a liability that she can’t shift?”
Valor’s nod was grim. “As wolves, we always need to be in control of our animal side. If we were to ever lose that control…the danger is too great. You have not witnessed a wolf such as this?” he asked.
I shook my head in silent response. The only wolves I witnessed were ones who were in complete control of themselves. Never had I seen a crazed wolf and knew with certainty that it wasn’t something I wanted to see either.
“It is not something to take lightly,” Valor continued. “When the animal inside us takes over, our need to kill, to taste blood and eat flesh consumes us.”
“And this will happen to her?” I asked.
“It will,” Valor confirmed. “If she cannot shift back to human form and learn to control the wolf within her, it will begin to take over. At such time, she would be lost forever.”
“Okay, I see the problem,” I replied, somberly. “Just seems so unfair. She didn’t ask for this, and now she could be killed for it.”
Valor inclined his head, acknowledged the depravity of this situation. “Exactly. You see my problem here. We need to get through to her, calm her enough to get her to shift, and then explain to her what has happened.”
“Can’t she hear you in her wolf form?” My interactions with wolves had taught me that much. “Why don’t you just explain it to her now?”
“We have explained it but nothing seems to be getting through to her.” Valor’s words came hastily and exasperated. “Time is running out.”
“So, what can I do to help?” I asked, a little lost as to what exactly he wanted me to do about it.
“I was hoping you would come with me, talk with her. Being that you grew up in the Earthworld, I thought you might be the best one to explain this new life to her. Help her accept what has happened.”
“Of course, I will try, Valor. But I don’t know anything about wolves.”
He waved away my apprehension. “That is not of any concern. Briggs is with her now. He has not left her side since returning to my home. If you can get her to shift, then he will explain everything to her in greater detail.”
Apparently, vacation time was over. My gaze connected with Kyden’s. “You’ll come too, right?”
He nodded as if I even needed to ask. “We will have to discuss this with the Council first.”
